Our Committment To You 2011 was quite a year as far as weather was concerned. From lightning storms, tornado-like winds, floods and record–breaking snowfalls, 2011 was certainly one for the books. It challenged all the resources of the Park District and caused an unprecedented closing of facilities. Our golf course and parks were damaged by 70–mile–per–hour winds which toppled trees and ripped through the surrounding neighborhoods. Torrential rainfalls swelled creeks and challenged overburdened sewers; lightening storms knocked out power. And let’s not forget the take–no–prisoners blizzard that paralyzed the area at the beginning of the year!
All totaled we lost 7 days to weather–related closings of various (and at times all) Park District facilities. As a rule we do everything humanly possible to keep our programs and classes running and facilities open. This past January our staff even slept overnight in facilities so they could meet the challenge of what some are now calling "the blizzard of the century."
Rest assured that our staff, and fleet of vehicles including snowplows, salt spreaders and trucks are ready for whatever challenges we might face this coming season.
Remember to follow us on Facebook or check our website for current information on weather–related closings or cancellations.
