Ice Hockey / Skating

The Mt. Prospect Park District proudly works with the Mount Prospect Ice Arena to provide quality ice programming. For Open Skate & Adult Rat Hockey Open Skate, please scroll down.

Learn To Skate

Our Learn To Skate (LTS) program is designed for skaters of all ages and skill levels. Based on the ISI (Ice Skating Institute) skating model, students progress through the program, learning basic skating skills and developing confidence to skate freely on their own.

Parent & Tot

Parent & Tot classes help preschool-aged skaters develop basic coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice. Instructors teach skills in smaller parts making learning easier. For our newest skaters, the Parent & Tot class allows parents to hit the ice and learn and perfect their own skating skills.

Basic Skills

Basic Skills classes are for recreational skaters 6-15 years old. Instructors introduce the fundamental skills of basic strides, edges, and turning to give novice skaters the confidence and ability to enjoy the sport, while preapring them to move to the next level.

Adult classes are designed for the beginner adult skater (16 & up) looking to reconnect with an old hobby or to learn a new set of skills. Taught in a ‘workshop’ style, the curriculum is designed specifically for the adult skater and includes the basic elements of forward, backward, turns and stops before advancing to more challenging skating moves.

Ice Hockey Programming

Pre Hockey

Pre-hockey is for skaters of all ages and skill levels who want to learn the game. Consisting of 4 progressive levels, classes teach the fundamentals of hockey skating and introductory skills such as stickhandling, shooting and passing.

Mite 3-on-3 Cross Ice House League

If your 5 or 6 year old has passed out of Learn-to-Skate and/or Pre-Hockey, this league is the perfect bridge to our house leage. Players who enter the Mite 3-on-3 program are formed into evenly skilled teams and practice once a week, with small mini-games taking place on weekends.

Mt. Prospect Youth Hockey Leagues

The Mt. Prospect House League is a developmental recreational program, with an emphasis on individual player development, teamwork and sportsmanship. Broken into 5 age divisions (mite, squirt, peewee, bantam, midget), teams typically receive 1 practice during the week, 1 combined skill session, and 1 game on the weekend, for a total of 2 to 3 hours on-ice weekly commitment. Our fun and relaxed environment provides all players with an opportunity to fall in love with the game. Teams are picked to promote parity and coaches are expected to operate under an ‘equal ice time’ mentality. As a part of the North Shore Hockey League (NSHL), home games will be played at Mt Prospect Ice Area, while away games will be played at other local rinks and against other house programs.

Adult Hockey Leagues

Mt. Prospect Adult Hockey Leagues are dedicated to providing a great overall experience both on and off the ice. We deliver a competitive game of hockey, with skill levels ranging from the recreational to the experienced player, in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Register by team or as an individual. If you are new to hockey or looking to relive your glory days, we have a league for you!

Adult Hockey Classes

Similar to our Adult Learn To Skate class, Adult Hockey is taught in a workshop format. Class curriculum varies from class to class. Students learn the basic stick, puck and footwork skills necessary to compete in our Adult Hockey league.
