Strategic Themes, Goals & Objectives Update

As part of the June 26 Park Board Meeting, the Mt. Prospect Park District Board of Commissioners was presented with an update of the 2018 Mapping Our Future Strategic Plan. The plan’s implementation guidelines call for an annual June update throughout the five-year process ending in 2023.

The plan’s four themes: Customer Connection, Financial Stewardship, Internal Efficiency, Innovation & Technology and Organizational Development were subdivided into 16 goals and 53 objectives supporting each goal. Overall, 36 of 53 objectives are solidly underway. Nine goals have been completed including the installation of a new District website, completion of an Employee Satisfaction Survey, updates to technology, revisions on employee performance appraisals and more.

Committee Structure

An essential component to the completion of goals and objectives was the formation of staff committees in September 2018 in the areas of Customer Service, Employee, Technology and Safety. Each committee meets regularly to focus on the completion of goals and objectives within their area of influence.

The Employee Committee focused on the goals of Professional Growth & Development, Positive Work Environment, Organizational Accountability and Employer of Choice. The Committee focused on team building events for both part-time and full-time staff including a Fruit Pack Give Back Charity event where 75 fresh fruits baskets were assembled by staff and delivered to the Village’s Department of Human Services. In return for bringing and packing fruit, staff was treated to a pancake breakfast. Other staff events included a Halloween costume contest, a first place win in the Chamber Trivia Contest, a first place win in the Daily Herald’s at work Fittest Loser Challenge, summer Walking Wednesdays, staff barbeque and more.

The Customer Service, Technology and Safety Committees have also implemented many changes in the first year of the Strategic Plan. The District has new Customer Service standards for all staff and will soon be implementing both a secret shopper program and customer loyalty program. The technology committee has streamlined webstore registration with the ability to purchase memberships online and most recently, to donate to the Park Foundation directly through webstore. They also enhanced the webstore mobile-user experience.

A District safety assessment was completed by Human Resources in late 2018 and recommended changes have been implemented. Security cameras were updated by the IT department and RecPlex lockers were changed to discourage break-ins. These are just some of the positive changes underway.

As the District moves forward into year two of the Strategic Plan, one is reminded that although we began with Mapping our Future, we are clearly on our way.
