Notice Under the Americans With Disabilities Act
People with or without disabilities are invited to register for all Park District programs. Mt. Prospect Park District is committed to providing accessible parks, facilities, programs and digital content for individuals with disabilities.
The Mt. Prospect Park District will not discriminate against eligible residents for participation on the basis of a disabling condition. We invite any resident with a special need to contact our staff upon registration so that a smooth inclusion may occur. The Park District will make reasonable accommodations, like providing communication aids or removing barriers.
In addition to the programs listed in our brochure, our District provides specialized services for people with disabilities through Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA). Please note that the Park District does not have medical staff to provide medical care. We can assist with self-administration of medication on a case-by-case basis.
Employment
The Park District does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Effective Communication
The Park District will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in the District’s programs, services, and activities including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing or vision impairments.
Modifications to Policies and Procedures
The Park District will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all Park District programs, services and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in Park District Offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a Park District program, service or activity, should contact the Park District ADA Coordinator/Responsible Employee, as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours before the scheduled event.
The Park District will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
Parks and Facilities
The Mt. Prospect Park District follows the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for maintaining and improving its parks and facilities. The District’s ADA Transition Plan is reviewed and revised periodically and identifies barriers to and within parks and facilities. The necessary repairs or improvements to remove the barriers are prioritized and included in the District’s future plans.
Recreation Programs
The Park District makes reasonable accommodations and provides inclusion services to enable individuals with disabilities to participate in recreation programs. Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) is an extension of the Mt. Prospect Park District that provides inclusion support for regular park district recreation programs. There is no extra charge for inclusion services from NWSRA. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Park District at 847-255-5380 or NWSRA at 847-392-2848 to request special accommodations needed for the enjoyment of Park District recreation programs, or to register for inclusion services for a specific Park District program, simply indicate the need on the registration form. Inclusion support should be requested a minimum of two weeks in advance.
Additionally, NWSRA provides recreation programs that are especially designed for individuals with special needs; register for NWSRA-led activities directly through their organization at https://www.nwsra.org/.

Those who use the Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) may reach the Park District through a free service provided by the Illinois Relay Center by dialing 7-1-1; this service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
