Staff Testimonials
Cassie
Cassie is a part-time RecPlex Center Director. Her role encompasses anything customer related; answering questions, assisting with program and membership registrations and acting as the liaison between patrons and staff.
With a desire to enhance her customer service skills, Cassie has learned to respond rationally rather than emotionally to positively shape a patron interaction. Doing so allows her to positively influence the outcome in most situations.
Cassie loves working with MPPD’s diverse community of patrons and staff. “The people are wonderful and the overall atmosphere is incredibly inviting, making each day enjoyable. My co-workers are amazing. Working here has been a valuable learning experience, allowing me to grow and develop in various ways.”
Ethan
Ethan wears many hats at MPPD working as a Center Director, Fitness Center Supervisor and Scorekeeper. His responsibilities are many and varied including member registration, opening and closing facilities, supervising the Fitness Centers and scorekeeping for basketball leagues. Amongst his most valuable District lessons are the importance of continued flexibility, learning and growth.
Flexibility in scheduling was very important to Ethan while he attended Harper College.”The park district helped me balance my coursework, basketball and personal life with my work schedule. Working here also supported my interests in sports, fitness and basketball.”
Ethan’s favorite part about MPPD is the work environment and the people that encompass it. “The park district has allowed me to develop friendships with both patrons and co-workers. This makes it so enjoyable to come to work each and every day!”
Annika
Annika spent her youth in park district programming (swim lessons, swim team, youth soccer), so it made perfect sense to submit an application when she turned 16. For the last 10 years, Annika has had many jobs including working part-time as a lifeguard, swim lesson instructor, pool manager and swim coach.
Throughout her time at the Park District, Annika feels she’s learned a lot about herself and really stepped out of her comfort zone. “I’ve been able to build my confidence in taking the lead – first just leading a class, then a small group of staff, and now large sectors of our aquatics staff. I feel so much more comfortable leading others, problem solving and handling tough situations. It has given me a lot of confidence going into my career.”
Annika loves the summer season and getting to be outside at the pools all the time. Coaching and swim lessons have also allowed her to meet many wonderful kids and families. “As I’ve gotten older, I have really appreciated being able to grow my professional abilities and leadership skills. I have also gotten to play a role in supporting new staff as they begin to build those qualities as well.”
Tyler
Tyler is a part-time MPGC Shift Supervisor and Greensperson #2. He coordinates golf course shift operations, checks golfers in at the front desk, restocks the pro shop, washes and parks golf carts and more.
Over the years, Tyler has grown in his customer service and problem solving skills. “Sometimes problems arise during your shift and it is your responsibility to solve it and make sure the customer is happy.”
As a full-time firefighter and paramedic, Tyler is very grateful to his MPGC managers who allow him much flexibility with his schedule. “The golf course management is very tenured and provides a stable workplace for all staff that makes us want to continue working at the course.”
Emma
Emma has worked for the Mt. Prospect Park District for the last 7 years. She works in the Early Childhood & Youth Department as a Lead KinderKlub Teacher. Her job responsibilities include planning and implementing day to day activities, including STEM, large motor, arts and crafts and dramatic play.
Emma originally applied because she was looking for a summer job and remembered being involved in many District activities as a kid. As a result of her time in the Early Childhood & Youth department, she realized she wanted to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. “The most important thing that I have learned from working here is that I wanted to switch from science to early childhood education as my career.”
Her favorite part about working for the park district is that every day presents something different. She thoroughly enjoys each day and the new learning experiences it brings to both herself and the children.
