Mt. Prospect Park District Receives a 2023 IDNR Bike Path Grant
The Mt. Prospect Park District has been awarded $137,500 as one of thirteen Illinois bike path projects to receive a 2023 IDNR Bike Path Grant.
The park district will utilize these funds to improve the Commonwealth Edison Trail which begins at Algonquin Road and extends ¾ of a mile to Linneman Road. While the trail needs overall repair, the proposed improvements include accessible entry points, seating areas and signage.
On October 6, 2023, Governor Pritzker announced the awarding of $2.1 million in grants for 13 state bike path projects that both develop and improve the bike path system in Illinois.
“Bicycle path projects are excellent drivers of job creation and economic development, while also increasing road safety for bicyclists,” said Governor Pritzker. “Illinois’ beautiful natural landscape should be accessible and safe for all to enjoy.”
The Illinois Bicycle Path Grant Program is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Funding comes from a percentage of the motor vehicle title fees, providing a maximum grant award of $200,000 per project.
“The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is pleased to provide funding to help local communities encourage families and individuals to get outside, enjoy the outdoors, and reduce their carbon footprint with more biking and less driving,” said IDNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie.
